First Actual Parallel Evolutionary Learning Circuit = Skynet
So I was like holy crap! when I saw this article about a parallel and evolutionary learning computer. I saw this original article on metafilter.com
It's only a matter of time for Skynet to come....
Excerpt:
“The neat part is, approximately 300 molecules talk with each other at a time during information processing,” Pati says. “We have mimicked how neurons behave in the brain.”
“The evolving neuron-like circuit network allows us to address many problems on the same grid, which gives the device intelligence," Pati says. As a result, their tiny processor can solve problems for which algorithms on computers are unknown, especially interacting many-body problems, such as predictions of natural calamities and outbreaks of disease. To illustrate this feature, they mimicked two natural phenomena in the molecular layer: heat diffusion and the evolution of cancer cells.
In addition, their molecular processor heals itself if there is a defect. This property comes from the self-organizing ability of the molecular monolayer. “No existing man-made computer has this property, but our brain does,” Bandyopadhyay says. “If a neuron dies, another neuron takes over its function.”
“This is very exciting, a conceptual breakthrough,” Pati says. “This could change the way people think about molecular computing.”

Ninja New York - Get Served Food By Ninjas
Ok so my friend John C. sent me this link..... its totally sweet.... it's a Ninja Themed restaurante.....
let me repeat that its a NINJA THEMED RESTAURANTE..... where they have ninjas serve you food.
The restaurante itself is modeled after a Ninja Castle of the Japanese Fuedal days... how cool is that?
BONUS
In the video above at 2:18 the dude starts talking about "I love being a ninja because I get to do..." then at 2:19 (he pauses as it pans to some cute girls....)

Kangaroo Boxing - The Legend Continues
So my friend Darren sent me the above picture when we were browsing through some totally sweet rare books on SequiturBooks.com. This particular pictures comes from a set of books called the Naturalist's Cabinet.
Now the first thing you notice is there is a dude.... going toe to toe with a kangaroo.... now I know it's common folklore to talk about boxing kangaroos... but I always thought it was just a wacky urban legend.... apparently not....
I like how the kangaroos do a move that looks alot like a 'snap back or fade' in boxing.

Theory of Happiness: Lessons from Kahneman
This applies to all types of human experience, relationships, vacations, your life. The real time emotions of joy and sorrow are fleeting. They are 3 second blocks of time that evaporate into the void. The only things that stick in your mind are changes, highlights, and the endings. The real time experience of happiness only imprints when the magnitudes are high and the timing is correct. Timing is not time.... since duration has little bearing on how good or bad something is remembered, but the Timing is key. You can have a terrible time, but if there are good peaks and a greatly satisfying ending, you will remember this as being better than something that was stably better. We are derivative junkies with an enormous weight on the end timing. =)
The end state leaves the taste in your mouth good or bad.
My friend Ian had the idea is of taking small things away from employees the entire year, then giving it back to them at the end in one giant chunk. This is very clever at catbert like actually. We think this would prove better than having a pleasant work time the entire year, then having a crappy ending.... this is why raises and bonuses timed at the end are so key, if you can move suckage anywhere, you are better putting suckage in the middle.
This is important because if you want to maximize your efficiency of effort, you can let everything suck daily but make sure the peaks and endings are epic.

Leadership in under 3 minutes
Here is a video my friend kyle sent me, it's pretty interesting. Standing out from the crowd is an honest signal of confidence, because if you stand out from the crowd and you are not confident, the first rock someone throws at you will make you quit.

The Physical Fitness Path to getting hired
My friend kyle sent me this interesting article about the differential cost of health insurance to employers and why putting positive things such as excellent health and that you run marathons might give you the edge you need on landing that next job.
Check out the article here, it is quite enlightening.
Now consider the 20 year old kid. He costs me, the employer, $100 for health benefits (he pays the other half.) But the obese woman costs me $900 - nine times as much!
...
The law in this case is outrageous. What many call "discrimination" is in fact nothing more than a cold economic calculation. If I am hiring someone to do a job that pays $20/hour, that is, $40,000 in gross wages for 2,000 man-hours of work annually, a "hidden" embedded cost differential in hiring of $9,600 ($800/mo in embedded health insurance cost!) is a 25% increase in the cost of employing one person .vs. the other. To make it "unlawful" for employers to consider legitimate costs that one employee imposes .vs. another is ridiculous - but it is, in fact, the law.
